This is the right side, which will feel harsh. Pins inserted through the edge up from the underside to the topside, which is the right side, are used to hold the fabric taut during the manufacturing process. These holes may vanish with laundry, so note one side before going through the process.
Choose a liner with a flannel backing for further insulation. The right side of the flannel-backed cotton should be against the wrong side of the drapery fabric, and the fuzzy side should be against the wrong side. On one side of the cloth, the diagonal lines of a twill weave will flow in one way, while on the other side, they will run in the opposite direction.
Choose one side and utilise it as the right side to avoid misunderstanding with twill, which might seem the same on both sides because of the weave. Just remember to remain consistent. The only exception is if one side has longer surface threads than the other. The longer surface threads indicate the wrong side. Consistency is key. Choose one side and use it as the right side for all of your curtains if the two sides are extremely similar in look.
If the cloth has a shiny surface, choose the shiny side for the right side. The marks should be removable or placed in a spot that will not be visible when the curtains are completed. Mark the side with painters tape, which leaves no residue unlike masking tape. Or invest in a fabric stapler; the staples are small, blunt-ended and easily removable. Use a permanent marker in the selvedges only and place a paper towel under the fabric to prevent marking your table or cutting surface if the ink bleeds through.
Also, make sure the ink is dry before you move the fabric. The right side of the lining orients toward the window. The wrong side of the lining sits against the wrong side of the curtain fabric.
The layers, starting from inside the room, are: curtain fabric right side facing into the room , curtain fabric wrong side not visible but orienting out the window , lining wrong side not visible but orienting into the room , lining right side facing out the window.
Feel the surface of blackout or dimout lining; one side will feel smooth, and one will feel rougher. The rough side is the right side, and it should orient to the road. Locate the pin holes in the selvedge of a cotton or blended fiber woven fabric. One side will feel rough, and this is the right side.
Curtains, when carefully selected, can make a large or imposing room seem cozy. They can also make a small room seem bigger by using light colors. Select a color that is complementary to the wall color for an instant ambiance with little effort. Not sure if it is blackout lining, but it's white on both sides with one side rubbery feeling.
It seems that both ways are correct, but I am really concerned that if I put the rubbery side out it will crack because my windows face south and get very hot.
